Who Is Gringo Prepper?
I am a retired electrical engineer who has lived in San Miguel de Allende for over 10 years. I am worried about surviving a major electrical grid failure. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being never think about it to 10 being run to the store and buy up all the toilet paper, I am about a 6.
Due to the sensitive nature of some of the topics on this web site, I chose to remain anonymous (but reachable).
The problem facing anyone who plans against a future catastrophic event is what to do about the friends and neighbors who have not made similar preparations. Obviously you should help them if you can do so without jeopardizing the future of your own family. But how far does this go? You obviously cannot save the entire neighborhood, let alone the city. My answer to this moral question was to prepare this web site, making the information I found available free to anyone.
So please read what is written, then take action to protect yourself and your family against a future disaster. Think of it as insurance and hope you never need to make use of it. You can scale your preparations according to your budget and the severity of the problem you foresee. In my case, I am planning for a six-month outage, but admittedly the likelihood of this is much lower than say one-week outage.
